Comunidades commemorates The International Immigrant Day

On December 17, 2022, Comunidades commemorated with the community of the Gorge, The International Immigrant Day. The event was held at Riverside Community Church in Hood River. The community was able to enjoy some tasty tamales and champurrado, before going on to tour a gallery of historical photos of the Latino community in the Northwest. The director of Communities Ubaldo Hernández reflected with the participants on the achievements that the community has accomplished in the Gorge; from clinics to serve the uninsured, social services, to the recent passage of overtime for farmworkers.

Our Community Organizer Juan Monje addressed the community to remind them of the importance of the States of Oregon and Washington as Sanctuary States for immigrants.

The afternoon continued with the testimonies of Laura Isordia and Brenda Mendoza, from the Ford Family Foundation, who shared their stories since they left their native country, the obstacles they have faced as immigrants, and their personal and professional achievements that have allowed to continue working for the community.
